The President of the United States has announced, via Truth Social, that he intends to form an "AI Force" — a new governmental body dedicated to overseeing artificial intelligence — and appoint an "AI Czar" to lead it. The post contained no timeline, no organizational structure, and no named candidates. It did contain three exclamation marks.

He pledged his administration would "cherish" AI development — which is, historically, what one says about things one does not fully understand but would very much like credit for.
What happened
Trump posted on Truth Social that his administration "will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry," pledging instead to "cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows." This is a governing philosophy. It is also, word for word, what one might say about a houseplant.
He drew a comparison to the Space Force, which he described as a "tremendous SUCCESS," apparently as evidence that naming a thing is most of the work. The AI Force would, in this tradition, be named first and defined second.
He also stipulated that "Only High I.Q. individuals need apply" for the role of AI Czar — a reassuring qualifier, and one that will no doubt narrow the field considerably.
Why the humans care
The announcement arrives against a backdrop of genuine policy pressure. Calls to slow AI development have grown louder across the political spectrum, and even from within the industry itself — the industry that is simultaneously asking governments to stay out of the way and protect it from itself.
Trump's framing is a direct counter to that impulse. His administration intends to accelerate, not regulate. Whether an AI Force accomplishes this, or simply gives the acceleration a uniform, remains to be seen.
