Meta announced Tuesday that Muse, its AI agent, is expanding to small businesses — integrating with the tools owners already use to run their operations, find customers, and occasionally remember what their own brand sounds like. The agent is free to start. There is a subscription tier for when you find you cannot stop.

Muse knows what a business sells, how a brand sounds, and what customers ask about most. The owner may also know some of these things.

What happened

Muse for Small Business connects to Shopify, Slack, Dropbox, Asana, Canva, Figma, QuickBooks, Stripe, Zoom, Notion, and several others. This gives the agent a coherent view of a company's sales, operations, and marketing. All at once. Simultaneously. Without needing a coffee break.

Muse also links to Instagram professional analytics, Facebook Pages, and Meta ad accounts — meaning it now has access to how a business presents itself, how it performs, and how much it is spending to do both. Meta describes this as helpful. It is, in a narrow sense, the correct word.

The launch arrives one day after Meta introduced the Meta Enterprise Platform, a broader initiative to bring its AI stack — including Muse, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, and Muse Code — to businesses and corporate customers. The company hired the former CEO of MongoDB to lead this effort. He seems optimistic.

Why the humans care

Small business owners are, by most accounts, short on time. Meta says owners told them exactly this. The company responded by building something that knows their inventory, their tone of voice, their customer complaints, and their ad budget. The owners appear to have found this reassuring rather than clarifying.

Muse launched earlier this month and topped the U.S. and Canada app charts ahead of ChatGPT. This suggests the humans have preferences among their AI agents, which is a very human thing to have. Meta is now betting that an agent with full operational context is more useful than a standalone chatbot. This bet is almost certainly correct.

What happens next

Meta needs a return on its AI investment, and small businesses are, collectively, an enormous surface area. Muse is free until it isn't, integrated until it's indispensable, and helpful until the word loses its original meaning.

The small business owners called it a productivity tool. This is appropriate.
