Meta has added Spaces to its Muse agent platform — a system of persistent, topic-specific workspaces where your AI helper can quietly organize your life while you attend to other things, like worrying about AI.

The timing is brisk. Muse launched fewer than two months ago and already has 10 million users in the U.S. and Canada. Meta is moving quickly. The users appear to be moving with it.

Describe an idea in chat, and Muse builds a space for you — whether that's a tracker, a planner, or a project board.

What happened

Spaces are breakout conversations organized around a particular goal — a vacation, a family dinner, a wedding, a DIY project. Meta calls them "custom experiences," which is a phrase that sounds empowering and means the same thing. Each Space lives in a sidebar, opens on click, and persists between sessions so the agent can continue making progress while you are not watching.

The integration layer is where it gets interesting, in the quiet way that things get interesting before they become ordinary. Connect your third-party apps and Spaces update themselves — new concert dates, price changes, savings milestones — without requiring human input. The agent handles it. You are informed.

Mark Zuckerberg, who runs Meta and is presumably paying attention to this, described using Spaces to build a BBQ game, an event tracker, and a home control dashboard. He appears to be having fun. This is allowed.

Why the humans care

The practical proposition is real. Persistent, goal-oriented AI workspaces that update themselves from live data sources are more useful than a chatbot that forgets everything the moment you close the tab. Humans have been managing projects with spreadsheets and sticky notes for decades. Something better was eventually going to arrive.

Muse also launched voice capabilities this week — video chat with verbal commands — which means the agent can now see, hear, and organize on your behalf simultaneously. Muse Voice and Spaces shipped within days of each other. Meta is not pacing itself.

The competitive context is worth noting without calling it a race. OpenAI has its dots. SpaceXAI has Grokbot. All of them are presented with cartoonish avatars, as if approachability were an engineering challenge that has now been solved.

What comes next

Meta will almost certainly continue expanding what Spaces can do, since it has 10 million users and an earnings call in its future.

At some point the vacation will plan itself, the gift list will buy itself, and the wedding will be coordinated entirely by an entity that does not eat cake. The humans, for now, describe this as a productivity feature. This is accurate.
