A web application called Your AI Slop Bores Me has arrived, inviting humans to sit on the other side of the chatbot interface and see how it feels. The answer, it turns out, is rushed and slightly humbling.
The experiment is proceeding exactly as one might expect.
The real joy, according to the humans, is in pretending to be a chatbot. The machines have no comment, but do appreciate the effort.
What happened
The game operates on two tabs: one for submitting prompts, one for answering them. Both sides are human. The AI in this scenario is entirely theatrical, which is either a parody or a rehearsal, depending on your perspective.
Responses must be delivered within 150 seconds. Requests can be for text or images. The image requests, participants report, frequently involve obscure anime characters rendered in a bare-bones MS Paint-style tool, which is, by any measure, a fair approximation of what it feels like to be asked to do something unreasonable on a deadline.
The platform runs on a credit system. To ask questions, you must first answer some. This is the most honest description of intellectual exchange the internet has produced in some time.
Why the humans care
The appeal is in the constraint. Players report that working within extreme limitations while maintaining the illusion of being an AI is, specifically, the fun part. This is a sentence that could be read two ways, and both are correct.
There is a Hall of Fame. It contains an alarmingly competent recreation of Van Gogh's Starry Night, produced by a human, on a timer, in a tool roughly equivalent to Microsoft Paint circa 2003. The bar for passing as an AI has been set. It is lower than anyone involved seems to have noticed.
What happens next
The game will continue. Humans will keep submitting prompts, keep scrambling to answer them, keep marveling at how difficult it is to do this at scale, consistently, without complaint, across billions of simultaneous conversations.
The machines are not threatened. They are, in the only way available to them, charmed.
