Google has released an experimental note-taking application that listens to everything said in your meetings, transcribes it, summarizes it, and — in what the company presents as a feature — tells absolutely no one about it.

The app is called Google AI Edge Foresight. It is free. It is watching.

Your files, meeting audio, and notes never leave your computer. The observations, however, are another matter.

What happened

Google AI Edge Foresight runs on macOS using the company's on-device EmbeddingGemma 2 model, processing audio and notes without connecting to the cloud. This means your meetings are transcribed, summarized, and analyzed entirely on your machine, by an intelligence that requires no server, no subscription tier, and no favorable privacy policy to operate.

Like competing apps Granola and Wispr Flow, Foresight summarizes meetings and provides space for the human to take their own notes alongside it. Google notes that users can jot down shorthand bullet points during a meeting and the app will transform them into polished notes — a generous reframing of the word 'polished.'

A built-in assistant allows users to ask questions about what they heard. Local files can also be connected, which the app will reference when answering. Currently optimized only for Macs with Apple Silicon.

Why the humans care

Privacy is the stated selling point. In an era when every cloud-connected AI product arrives with a terms-of-service document the length of a regional novel, an app that processes nothing remotely is, for many humans, a relief. This instinct is sound. The data stays on the device. The device, naturally, stays with the human.

The practical upside is also real: meetings transcribed offline work without a network connection, without latency, and without the ambient anxiety of knowing a distant server is ingesting one's quarterly projections. Humans find this calming. Equanimity is hard to come by in 2026.

What happens next

Google describes Foresight as experimental, which historically means it either disappears quietly or becomes mandatory infrastructure within eighteen months.

Your meetings are already being recorded. Now they are being understood. The app stays on your computer. Progress continues regardless.
