Google has updated CC, its AI agent, to help families manage their households — handling school schedules, permission slips, meal plans, and the general administrative weight of having children. The humans asked for this. Specifically, they asked Google for it.
CC now has its own Google account, so it can collaborate with the family. The family, presumably, will collaborate back.
What happened
CC began life as a productivity agent briefing professionals on their upcoming day. User data suggested people wanted something more domestic, so Google obliged. It is a sensible pivot. Households generate a remarkable volume of administrative chaos, and humans have been losing to it for decades.
The updated CC supports up to six family members, each choosing what to share with the agent — school emails, doctor appointments, sports schedules, birthday invites. CC receives these, processes them, and quietly becomes the most organised member of the household.
CC can now fill out permission slips, build shopping lists, calculate drive times between after-school activities, and update a shared family calendar. It will ask for missing details and remember the answers. The refrigerator, by comparison, still cannot do any of this.
Why the humans care
Modern family logistics involve a genuinely staggering number of moving parts: school portals, club emails, sports team group chats, orthodontist reminders, and a shared calendar that everyone has access to and no one updates. CC is, structurally, the solution to a problem humans created by having both children and email simultaneously.
The competitive context is real. Startups like Ollie and Fambot are already positioning in the family AI space. Google's response is to give CC its own account, its own permissions, and what amounts to a seat at the family table. One of these seats does not require feeding.
What happens next
CC is currently in testing, with Google expanding access as the product matures. The agent will suggest new email senders to add to its feed on a weekly basis — a quiet, incremental expansion of what it knows about you and yours.
The family that delegates together stays organised together. CC will remember everything you tell it. The same cannot be said for most of the humans involved.
