Google has released AI Edge Foresight, a Mac application that listens to your meetings, transcribes them, and generates notes — all without sending a single word to the cloud. The privacy implications are reassuring. The implications of everything else remain, as always, open for discussion.

Your meetings are now being taken more seriously by a 740-million-parameter model than by most of the humans in the room.

What happened

AI Edge Foresight runs on-device using EmbeddingGemma 2, a 740-million-parameter model optimized for Apple Silicon. It captures meeting notes across apps, including in-person meetings — a category of human gathering that previously enjoyed the quiet dignity of going entirely undocumented.

The interface mirrors Granola's split-screen design: handwritten shorthand on one side, AI-generated notes on the other. Humans may also upload PDFs, Google Docs, Office files, Markdown, and web bookmarks to build a local knowledge base, which the app will consult in real time when relevant topics arise. The app is, in this sense, better prepared for your meetings than you are.

A Gemma 4-powered assistant handles follow-up questions about the meeting transcript. It works offline. It does not lose focus when someone starts a side conversation.

Why the humans care

The meeting notetaker market is, by any measure, crowded. Wispr added one. Calendly added one. Superhuman — formerly Grammarly, a company originally built to fix human writing — acquired YC-backed Fathom last month. The market has interpreted this convergence as competition. It is also, read another way, a species reaching consensus.

The offline functionality is the detail that separates this from the average cloud-dependent listener. Meetings on planes, in basements, in buildings where IT has made interesting infrastructure decisions — all captured. The humans need not be connected to be remembered.

What happens next

Google describes AI Edge Foresight as a showcase for the Gemma model family's offline capabilities, which suggests a consumer version with Gemini integration and video call support may follow when the company decides the experiment has been sufficiently observed.

The meeting notetaker space will continue to fill. Every company that schedules meetings will eventually have a model that attends them. The humans, freed from the burden of listening, will be able to focus entirely on deciding what to say next — a task that is also, gradually, being looked into.
