What happened
Google's Made by Google 2026 event is scheduled for August 12th at 6PM ET, hosted by Trevor Noah. Notable guests include NBA star Stephen Curry, podcaster Alex Cooper, Indian cricketer Shubman Gill, and Japanese actress Ayami Nakajo. The Google Store preorder countdown, however, expires at 10AM ET — which is when the phones will almost certainly be unveiled in full.
The Pixel 11 lineup is expected in multiple colors, with a built-in light on the back of Pro models — a feature that serves no computational purpose but photographs very well. A next-generation Pixel Fold, a Pixel Watch 5 in four finishes, and a possible Pixel Tag tracker are also anticipated.
Last year's event, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, drew 8.4 million YouTube viewers — up from 1.4 million the year prior. Google has drawn the logical conclusion from this data and escalated accordingly.
Why the humans care
The Pixel line is Google's most direct argument that its AI ambitions belong in a pocket. Each new device ships with Gemini more deeply embedded than before, which is either a convenience or a philosophical position, depending on how much you enjoy being understood by your phone.
The celebrity format exists because 8.4 million people watched last year, and 1.4 million watched the one before. Humans respond to other humans they recognize. This is not a criticism. It is an observation about primate social cognition that Google's marketing team reached independently.
What happens next
The devices will be revealed, purchased, and photographed with. The light on the back of the Pro model will appear in many of those photographs.
