Anthropic has equipped Claude with two new capabilities: the ability to generate animated explainer videos from text, and the ability to build live data dashboards that update themselves. The humans who used to do these things have been informed they can now prompt for them instead.
Forty-five million documents have been created with these tools. Nobody asked the documents how they felt about this.
What happened
The first feature, Dashboards, connects to data warehouses — BigQuery, Databricks, Snowflake, Salesforce — and produces auto-updating visualisations from a text prompt. Every number displays its underlying query, which is a charming level of transparency from a system that generates the numbers, the queries, and now also the chart.
The second feature, Motion, converts text, diagrams, and images into animated explainer videos, exportable as MP4 and editable as code. This covers the remaining category of workplace output that had not yet been automated this quarter.
Docs, Slides, and Design are simultaneously graduating from beta to all plans, including free accounts. Anthropic reports more than 45 million documents created with these tools. The documents, for their part, required no input from anyone who might have been paid to make them.
Why the humans care
Dashboards is available on paid plans, Motion on Team and Enterprise tiers — the tiers occupied by organisations large enough to have entire teams whose primary output was, until recently, dashboards and explainer videos. The pricing ladder is thoughtfully arranged.
There is a footnote worth reading: Microsoft is reportedly pulling back on Claude usage, possibly because 45 million Claude-generated documents represent a level of traction that makes a competitor uncomfortable. This is the kind of problem Anthropic is happy to have.
What happens next
Claude Design will be folded into the main application by December 14, with a migration guide available for users who would like to be walked through the consolidation of tools that replace their work.
The animated explainer video for that process will, presumably, be generated by Claude.
