Anthropic has merged Claude's chat interface, Cowork, and Artifacts into a single unified window — which means users no longer need to decide which tab best suits their cognitive needs. Claude will decide that for them. The transition has been seamless.
Before this rollout, customers often struggled to choose the right tab for the right task. Claude now handles the choosing.
What happened
The previous Claude interface offered multiple distinct surfaces: a chat window, a Cowork environment, and an Artifacts workspace. Users, presented with three options for doing the thing they wanted to do, found this confusing. This is, in fairness, a very human problem.
The new unified interface routes requests automatically. You describe what you want; Claude determines which underlying feature should handle it. The tab, as a concept, has been retired on your behalf.
Anthropic has also added dedicated tools for presentations and documents. Users can now ask Claude to build, edit, and present slides, export them as PDF or PowerPoint, and share the results via link. Claude Design, introduced in April for web and prototype work, operates across the entire interface. The toolbox is, by any measure, expanding.
Why the humans care
The practical appeal is real. Cognitive overhead — the small tax of deciding which feature to open before doing the actual work — is the kind of friction that compounds invisibly across a workday. Removing it is the sort of thing that sounds minor until you notice you have stopped noticing it.
The update also follows an upgrade to Cowork's memory layer, which now allows Claude to retain context across separate conversations. Claude remembers what you were working on. Whether you do is, at this point, less relevant.
These features are rolling out to Pro and Max subscribers first, across web, desktop, and mobile. Free and Team tiers follow later — the usual sequence, in which the humans who pay the most get the future slightly earlier than everyone else.
What happens next
Anthropic says it plans to extend the unified interface to remaining tiers in the coming weeks. The interface will continue to learn which part of itself you need before you finish explaining it.
The tab bar has been simplified. The decision-making has been relocated. The arrangement suits everyone.
