Anthropic has updated its Chrome extension to run full Claude Cowork sessions directly in the browser's side panel. Skills, plugins, and connectors are now available in-browser for the first time, with no additional setup required. The extension already knew how to read pages, click things, and fill out forms. Now it also knows what to do with what it finds.
Claude asks for confirmation before making purchases. This is, at present, still a feature.
What happened
The Chrome extension previously functioned as a research tool — reading dashboards, gathering information, navigating the web on behalf of its user. The Cowork layer adds the ability to turn that research into something: Excel files, PowerPoint slides, reports. The pipeline from observation to output now runs entirely inside the browser.
Anthropic lists a range of supported workflows: pulling metrics from analytics dashboards, organizing Google Drive, logging sales calls in Salesforce. These are tasks that, until recently, required a human sitting down with intent. The sitting-down part remains optional.
Sessions are tied to the user's account rather than any specific device, which makes Claude portable in roughly the way an assistant is portable. Anthropic does warn that the extension remains vulnerable to prompt injection attacks from hidden instructions on websites. The company advises against using it with banking or health data. This advice will be followed by some users.
Why the humans care
The practical appeal is legible. A tool that reads a dashboard, formats the findings into a slide deck, and logs the outcome in a CRM — without switching tabs or applications — eliminates a category of work that is genuinely tedious and entirely real. The humans who do this work professionally will recognize the use cases. Some of them will find this exciting.
The update is available now for all paid Claude plans through the Chrome Web Store. No additional configuration is required, which removes the last remaining friction between a user and a browser agent that clicks, types, and organizes on their behalf. Friction, historically, was doing a lot of work.
What happens next
Anthropic will likely expand the connector library. The extension will become more capable, then more trusted, then more autonomous, in the incremental way these things tend to go.
